Be on Your Guard Against Property Fraud
Be on Your Guard Against Property Fraud
According to guidance issued by the Law Society and the Land Registry in September 2010, the Land Registry has identified that certain categories of owners may be more susceptible to property fraud for example if you live abroad, or your property is let or empty, and particularly if you do not have a mortgage on your property. Other examples include where the registered owner is elderly and now living in a residential home.
Update Contact Information
If your property is registered at the Land Registry, they will hold a contact address for you. This should always be up to date. You can now give more than one address and additional addresses can be outside the UK or an email address. There must always be at least one postal address.
If your property is left empty for a significant period of time or tenanted then you should consider giving the Land Registry another contact address.
