Parental Bereavement Leave

The government has taken the next step towards bringing in a right for parents to take paid Parental Bereavement Leave by publishing the two statutory instruments (one dealing with the right to take the leave and the other dealing with pay during the leave) that will implement it.

The new leave will entitle parents to take two weeks’ paid bereavement leave upon the death of a child aged under 18.

The leave is paid at the lower of £151.20 per week or 90% of the parent’s salary and will come into effect on 6 April 2020.
